About our school

thompsonschoolforgirls.org school introduction

Ohio evaluates every public school on a Performance Index and a five-star rating system, which means you don't have to guess how a school is performing — the state already did the math. Thompson School for Girls earned a 2024-25 Performance Index score of 72.6, ranking in the top 25% of Ohio charter schools. It's a public charter school serving girls in kindergarten through 11th grade in Cleveland.

Leadership and college preparation run through everything that happens here, from the earliest grades through high school. Girls aren't just learning to read and solve equations. They're learning to communicate, to lead, and to take responsibility for their own growth. Leadership skills aren't elective activities offered after school. They're the method. Every girl who walks through the door on Euclid Avenue starts preparing for what comes after graduation on day one of kindergarten.

What makes this particular school distinct is the all-girls environment itself. Research consistently shows that girls in single-sex classrooms speak up more, take more risks academically, and build the kind of self-assurance that carries into adult life. At Thompson, athletics and leadership development aren't extras — they're built into the structure of the school day.

It's a publicly funded school. There's no tuition, no fees, and no cost to families.

  • Free breakfast and lunch for every student
  • Free transportation for eligible families
  • No application fees, no hidden costs

Thompson School for Girls is located at 3121 Euclid Ave, Cleveland, OH 44115. You can reach the school by phone at (216) 353-2248.
